Courses

Elm Court School, Lambeth September 2002 - October 2011 Head of Language and Communication Unit (Acting, September 2010-October 2011) I established the Language and Communication Unit, to deliver education to vulnerable pupils taken from the main body of SEBD pupils. I developed specific objectives around attendance and well-being to improve educational attainment. I developed an organizational structure consistent with these objectives and assisted with recruitment activity to secure the appropriate staff. I supervised one other teacher and four teaching assistants. All non-attending pupils assigned to the unit returned to full attendance and undertook entry level and GCSE qualifications. The unit remains the flagship for educational standards at Elm Court School. Head of Religious Education (September 2006-August 2010) I developed a comprehensive syllabus for the delivery of RE across the school. The new syllabus promoted the use of innovative IT resources and pupil contribution and engagement. This coupled to extensive lesson preparation and my ability to understand pupils needs led to a dramatic i mprovement in their education - pupils that generally achieved low levels of attendance and exhibited highly disruptive behaviour realised RE attendance in excess of 90% and highly improved. This step change in the quality of delivered education was acknowledged by other teaching staff. Classroom Teacher (September 2002-August 2006) I delivered Maths, English, History, Geography and Physical Education lessons with a particular focus on Maths. I started work as a year seven tutor and retained the same class until they left school in year 11. Nightingale School, Wandsworth Head of Art (September 2000-August 2002) My first teaching post held responsibility for the delivery of Art lessons and also the care of pupils through a year eight tutor group. The school was placed into special measures as a consequence of the extreme behaviour of pupils. The average duration of an employment was only six months due to the extreme working conditions. Experience relevant to role, most recent first ) Camden Language and Communication Service September 2017- current Language and Communication Outreach Teacher/Consultant In September 2017 I was asked if I would be willing to support Camden Language and Communication Service as a Language and Communication Outreach Teacher/Consultant . My main roles have been; to work in partnership with mainstream primary schools in order to ensure access to and progression within the whole curriculum for children with a range of language and communication needs, and to promote their full inclusion within schools ; and also to support school staff and other members of the childrens workforce to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in working with children with language and communication needs . Eagle House School, Mitcham March 2017 - July 2017 Deputy Head In March 2017 I was seconded to support the development of the primary school in Mitcham. Working in a primary school was a new experience for me, and though very different I took to it quickly. I again took responsibility for a group of teachers , this time in the schools upper pathway. I line managed them in all daily concerns, observations, performance management etc. I was leader in charge of timetabling, organising extra-curricular activities and trips, recruitment and daily cover. I also provided cover for teachers needing PPA and spent a lot of time supporting classes around behaviour issues. I was a lead in the behaviour on call system and was 2nd responder. I deputised for the head and was influential in developing a strategy for improving the learning of pupils falling behind target with a weekly progress meeting with teachers around this.
